In conjunction with the Office of Senior Victorians (OSV), YMCA Victoria, as the lead agency, has established and is managing the Active Ageing Network in partnership with Council on the Ageing Victoria (COTA) to provide strategic support to local organisations and councils to improve and extend affordable and accessible strength training and physical activity programs for older people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. The YMCA is working closely with the Office of Senior Victorians and COTA to achieve the project goals.

YMCA Victoria Chief Executive Peter Burns said: “The programs we support are specifically designed to be age-friendly, catering for participants of differing fitness levels and mobilities. We want older people to feel welcome in our programs and for them to become stronger in all aspects of their lives.”

Executive Director of COTA Sue Hendy said she’s looking forward to the potential benefits of further strengthening COTA’s collaboration with the YMCA.

“By working together toward common goals, and utilising the expertise of both organisations, we can make a real difference to the lives of older Victorians,” Ms Hendy said. “COTA has a strong track record in facilitating access for older people to quality physical activity programs and the Active Ageing Network is an opportunity to build on that.”
