Office of Senior Victorians

The Office of Senior Victorians (OSV) was established in May 2002 to provide a coordinated, whole-of-government, inter-sectoral response to the issues affecting older people. OSV is working to improve the quality of life of all older Victorians and empower them to lead independent, fulfilling and dignified lives by working with communities and across government:

  • Advocating for their rights and interests;
  • Providing information and expert advice;
  • Promoting positive perceptions of ageing; and
  • Providing opportunities for community participation and contribution.

OSV areas of activity include:

  • Funding and supporting initiatives to improve the health and wellbeing of older people, funding social inclusion projects and lifelong learning and improving their access to information by funding Council on the Ageing (COTA) Victoria to deliver Seniors Information Victoria;
  • Policy development including the Ageing in Victoria Policy Framework
  • Implementation of the Elder Abuse Prevention Strategy;
  • Management of the Victorian Seniors Card program; and
  • Coordinating the annual Victorian Seniors Festival.
